APICS SDEL Chapter to Collect Items for Local Food Bank
Starting with the November 11 Professional Development Meeting, the chapter will be collecting items for donation to the local food bank. Items needed include:Cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned luncheon meat, pork & beans, canned or dry pasta, canned soup, canned vegetables, saltines, canned juice, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, soap, boxed macaroni & cheese, baby food, diapers, and formula.
There will be a box at the registration table for the items and we will make sure they get to the food bank. Thank you for considering a donation.

CPIM Classes in North Wilmington
The Southern Delaware Valley Chapter has made arrangements to hold CPIM classes at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (LCGS) in North Wilmington. The church has a large modern facility on Foulk Road that is easy to reach from I-95, Rt; 202, Rt 1, and Naamans Road. The facility can accommodate classes as small as 5 and as large as 25.A "Basics of Supply Chain Management" class is scheduled to start on Monday, September 8, 2008 and run for 8 weeks. A "Master Planning of Resources" class is scheduled to start Monday November 10, 2008. With breaks for the holidays, that course will run into January, 2009. We plan to run all five modules in succession.
Classes will be priced at $500 plus books which cost approximately $85 per course. A special package price will be offered for anyone who would like to commit to the last 4 modules. Southern Delaware Valley Chapter Recognized for Certification
The Southern Delaware Valley Chapter has been recognized nationally for having the most members certified in the second quarter of 2008 for chapters of our size. SDEL tied for first with the Golden Gate Chapter in California. This is the second time the chapter has been recognized for Certification in the last year. Congratulations to all members who have earned and maintained your certifications!!New Board Members
We would like to welcome two new Board members. Jonathan Packard, CPIM CSCP will fill a two year term as VP-Programs. Jonathan works at W. L. Gore in Elkton, Maryland. Larry Jordan, CSCP will begin a two year term as VP-Administration replacing Princess Boxer whose term ended. Larry works at DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. Princess will be moving to the newly created position of VP-Membership to begin a two year term.Fred Wendt Receives Teacher of the Year Award

University of Delaware APICS Scholarship Recipient
Jennifer Vogt was presented with the APICS Operations Management Scholarship award at the Honors Day ceremony on Friday, May 6. Jennifer is an Operations Management major completing her junior year. She will intern at W. L. Gore this summer. Congratulations to Jennifer and best of luck in the future.
APICS Scholarship Awarded to Widener Student Kevin Todd Allebach
On April 2, I had the pleasure of attending Widener University's School of Business Administration Awards Banquet at the Hotel DuPont. The featured speaker was Brian Tierney, CEO of Philadelphia Media Holdings, Publisher and CEO of the Philadelphia Inquirer, and CEO of the Philadelphia Daily News.Our APICS chapter's Outstanding Student Award ($1,000) was awarded to Kevin Todd Allebach. Although Todd was not able to attend (he was in class thus showing dedication and tenacity), his teachers all had terrific things to say about him. It was a pleasure to be able to participate in this very well done and significant event for the students of Widener.
2007 Member of the Year
Tom Jumbo was named APICS Southern Delaware Valley Chapter Member of the Year for 2007. The award was presented to Tom at the January Professional Development Meeting.Tom is a Production Planner at Eaton Aerospace in Glenolden, PA. This award could have just as easily been a “Lifetime Achievement Award.” Tom has been a member for over 20 years and has served on the Board of Directors for 13 years. He is currently the VP-Finance.
Congratulations to Tom and a big thank you for his service to the APICS.

2007 Company of the Year
AstraZeneca was named 2007 APICS Southern Delaware Valley Company of the Year. The award was presented on January 22 at the AstraZeneca facility on Concord Pike in Wilmington.Eleven AstraZeneca employees are members, which represents the third largest number of members from a company in the chapter. These members are very active. Five of the members have earned their CPIM. Tamsey Schuler, CPIM, has served on the Board and AstraZeneca employees are regular attendees at Professional Development Meetings.
In addition, the company has supported employee's attendance at Congress for Progress and applies APICS supported principles through their recent Lean initiative.
Congratulations and thank you to AstraZeneca and their employees for their support of the Southern Delaware Valley chapter of APICS.
